Role: Commissioning Engineer Location: Remote, home-based, US-based candidate. Headquarters in Rosenberg, Texas (Houston area); no work is performed at the head office, all work happens at customer sites. Reports to / works within: The Project Management team; trains and works side by side with the senior Commissioning Engineer.

Team size: Roughly 40 to 45 people in the US, about 260 worldwide. The project engineering group is currently eight people; this hire is the ninth. Why this role exists right now: the company has one Commissioning Engineer dedicated to North America and a confirmed backlog of new and retrofit units running through 2027 (roughly 16 units late January through June 2026, plus another 17 units in production or installation starting mid-2026 into 2027).

This is the second North America commissioning resource, hired and trained ahead of the install volume.

The Mission

Become a fully independent Commissioning Engineer for the company's Dynamic UPS units in North America within 12 months, training side by side with the senior Commissioning Engineer on three to five units before running your own.

Performance Objectives

Complete each assigned Dynamic UPS unit through the full commissioning cycle within the standard 10 to 12 working-day per-unit window, from first safety check to customer-signed acceptance.

Lead the four to five day safety validation on every unit: verify every wire landing against point-to-point schematic wiring diagrams and every mechanical connection against P&ID drawings, reporting discrepancies to the Project Manager before any energization.

Execute the documented startup sequence per SOP, energizing switchgear, control panels, and mechanical systems systematically; clear alarms and troubleshoot first-power faults so each unit reaches stable operation and is ready for witness testing by roughly day six.

Deliver the customer witness test alongside the client, produce the final commissioning report including chart recordings and captures, and secure client signatures converting each unit to formal acceptance.

Reach independent commissioning capability after working three to five units side by side with the senior Commissioning Engineer.

Serve as a senior technical phone and screen-share resource for the field service team on units that have transitioned to service, resolving escalations remotely.

The Commissioning Engineer is the last technical hand validating that every wire landed correctly, every mechanical connection was run to spec, and the machine comes to life the way the customer witnessed it.

Who You'll Work For

The hiring manager is the Director of Project Management and Manager of Business Development, with almost 25 years in the rotary UPS industry, including 11 years as president of a competitor. He started at the company, left in 2007, and returned in 2018. "I'm not asking anybody to give up their life for the company.

The work's gotta get done. As long as everybody's working together, I'll find backup if you can't or if you've got something going on."

Requirements

- Must have served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Space Force, U.S. Reserves, or U.S. National Guard.

- Industrial/high-voltage electrical experience, comfortable from 480V three-phase up through medium voltage (4,160V, 12,470V, 13.8kV, and a 34.5kV system in development). Military equivalent: Navy Electrician's Mate (EM), nuclear-trained ratings (MM, EM, ET nukes), submarine Machinist's Mate or Fire Controlman, Aviation Electrician's Mate (AE).

- Reads schematic wiring diagrams (point-to-point) and P&ID drawings; can validate work against the documentation. Military equivalent: any rating that troubleshoots from schematics, including nuke ETs, AEs chasing wire on the flight line, and fire controlmen.

- Mechanical aptitude: can turn a wrench, make and check mechanical connections, and confirm leak-proof fittings. Military equivalent: Machinist's Mate, ground vehicle or tank mechanic, surface turbine technician.

- Troubleshooting under live or first-power conditions, isolating and clearing faults methodically. Military equivalent: mission-critical maintenance roles, flight-line readiness, submarine engineering watch.

- Travel-ready and US-based, comfortable with high but forecastable travel. Military equivalent: deployment-cycle experience.

Benefits

- Compensation: $120,000-$130,000 DOE.

- Base pay of $110K-$140K; full benefits package.
